March of the Polar Bares

On Saturday the peeps in Sarah's programs were doing a FUNdraising Polar Bear swim.  The day was pretty nice on the eyes, although it was windy and cool.  The water around these parts apparently doesn't warm up too much even in the summer so jumping in now is MADNESS!  Anyway we travelled out of the City to the beach where this was taking place.  There was some pretty big waves.  Yada yada yada here's some pics and footage of them running in.  Good job to everyone who did!!

Then we went back to town.  Played some Soccer-Tennis and then had some patio times and libations until our hour was taken from us.  Fun day especially for the spectators!  Good day to shake off the winter blues!

Send In The Clouds

I went out to get quarters for laundry and the sky looked cool.  Ice pellets started falling as the clouds swept through quickly after being sunny moments before.

This shot would have been better if I got to the end of the dock maybe a minute before.  There would be a nice contrast of sun on the right to go with the pellet clouds on the left.

The Sea Was Angry That Day My Friends!

Just went for a walk to Point Pleasant park even though the weather was not so pleasant, unless you like prickly rain on the face.  Still nice to get out on a Saturday though. It doesn't look too bad on this though.  At least to George.

Too Cool!

I'm the type of person who could look out the window of an airplane and not get board. So naturally something like this is just too cool for me to ignore.

Blast From The Not Too Distant Past

Special attention needs to be given at 0:58 of the clip. Oh man!!!

Joel Plaskett's Halifax Transit Strike song

Haha, Sarah came accross this and played it.  I didn't know whether to laugh or dance.  It's Joel's song about the Transit strike that's been going on for almost a month.

Here's the link.  Have a listen!

Plasketball is about more then just fun and games.

Pass Master General

A couple of vids of passing and dribbling clinics put on by non-linear Modders during recent games. He's like an improvisational comic just making things up as he goes a long.

A joy to watch! Unlike Liverpool/Snore!

Relax-a-thon

Such a nice relaxing weekend.

After work on friday, Sarah and I got some delicious burritos with Jana, Chris, Brett and Collin.  Then went back to their place to eat up and play some Apples to Apples (raunchy homemade edition) and tasted a bit of another game Brett had just got.  Then some more peeps met up with us and we went to the T-Room for trivia night.  Team 'Cosmic Soul Patch featuring Terrestrial Crispex' did okay but not as good as the last time we went when we made the podium.

On Saturday we hit up the market to get ingredients then relaxed all afternoon on the couch.  Played wii soccer and watched a bit of the Juventus game while Sarah worked on her midterm.  Then turkey burgers for dinner and a netflix watch-a-thon.

On Sunday I went to the gym with Sarah when we woke up.  More turkey burgers for lunch!  Delicious Roast for Dinner!  More netflix!

On top of everything Halifax seems immune to the big snowfalls hitting everywhere else in the maritimes.  Which kind of sucks for me because I like snow storms.  It's been sunny and just above 0 so that's not too bad.

Trail of the Dead: Redux but never duplicated

Trail of the Dead from Ragman Productions on Vimeo.

We made this years ago, probably 2003 or 2004, from the now defunct Chainsaw Productions.

Karl, Jeremy, and a bottle of chocolate syrup.

Music includes Secret Chiefs 3 and Mogwai.

Its pretty amateur (not my performance), but thats what is so good about it.

Total budget was 11 bucks.

Shot on Hi8. Edited in Premiere.

WTMeow

Just listened to the latest WTF episode.  Marc had his old buddy Matt Graham who was described this way before I listened.
Matt Graham has quite an amazing history. He and Marc crossed paths in the Boston comedy scene and Matt went on to be a respected comedy writer, a professional Scrabble player, a professional poker player, and an almost-college basketball player at the age of 40. But that only scratches the surface.
It doesn't say it but he was a writer on SNL and Conan. The interview was divided into 2 parts.  The first segment was pretty par for the course.  Nothing crazy.  The guy sounded pretty normal to me.  Then the second part which was recorded later started.  Aside from the voice I'm not convinced it's the same guy.

There was an unexpected exchange at the end which had me in stitches.  Here's the dialogue.

Matt: People are just full of shit.  You know.  And I'm not.  and that's why.  You know.  But I know, I'm just going to keep plugging away and I'll find either some creative outlet or sell some games or, you know, train manatees.  Something's gonna shake out.  But first the show.…and I brought a game I wanna sell you. I'm trying to sell off my games.  I brought a game I wanna sell you. Can I sell you one game for all that I told you.  All in one board game.

Marc: What game is it?

Matt: It's called Vegas.  It's a great Hasbro bookshelf game.

Marc: How much does a game cost?

Matt: How much does it cost?!  Make me an offer!

Marc: I don't know what games sell for.

Matt: Well you know what you can afford.  Like you know just make me…

Marc: How about I just lend you some money.  Or give you some money.  And I'll take the game.  I don't know if I wanna haggle I'm not good at it.  Cause...

Matt: Yes you can just give me money!  I wasn't trying to take you for a whole bunch of money.  I was trying to use, like the fact that I was so incredibly open and told you a story.  That I um…You know.  There's not many people…Now there's going to be a lot of people.  But up until there, there's 3 people who really know the whole story. You know what I mean.  You're 4.  And your podcast is 200,000 and 4.  You know.

Marc: So what are you saying.  You want 50 dollars for the game?

Matt: Ya fuck ya. But the reason I want you to loan me money is I try to pay people back you know what I mean.

Marc: You did pay me back.  You have payed me back.

Matt: You loaned me money once I payed you back.  I'm not looking to get into further debt you know.  You can definitely have it for that price.  I don't want to put any financial strain on you.  That's not what I'm looking to do.

Marc: No, there's no financial strain.  I think that's better then lending money and if you can use the 50 dollars and not worry about

Matt: Oh fuck ya.  I can use it.  I just spent 9 and McDonalds.  So you have to understand I really live by the, you know, nitty gritty. But I do want you to take the game.  It's not big and it's one of those really cool bookshelf type games.  And if nothing else it's a neat little piece of kitch that you'll look and it and think of me or something you know.

Marc: It's deal!

Matt: Okay cool!

Marc: Thanks Matt

Night & Day of the Never Living Dead

It's about time I post this.  It still catches my eye every time I walk by it.  There's a barren block of land downtown.  For the last month and probably longer there's been a "livelier" addition to that plot of land to spruce it up.  Well that's my best guess.

Oh No You Di'int!

A Super Sunday indeed!

Ay, caramba!

A couple of weeks ago when I was staying with my buddies Chris and Chuck before I left for Halifax, we were watching classic episodes of Simpsons.  Ever since then I haven't been able to get this out of my head.

Such a golden age of entertainment it was.

Duct tape injury nets ex-judge $25K in damages - Nova Scotia - CBC News

The Halifax Regional Municipality has been ordered to pay $25,000 in damages and to cover golf cart rental fees for a retired judge who stepped on a piece of duct tape at a city gym and injured her knee. More

Argh!!  I'm convinced we're living in the true dark ages of human existence.  No accountability anymore.  It's everyone ELSE's fault always!  Reading something like this makes me want move to the forest and befriend bears and wolves and anything that not a lawyer or a judge!

Well at least it will get a lot worse until it gets any better.  The only way it could get better is a post apocalyptic society of survivors.  Here's hoping those Mayans are right!

Seriously I don't know how some people sleep at night.  Kids have to stop being told they're special!  It seriously stems from that.

Team of the Week!

Lazy Sunday

Playing Catch-Up

I was looking through some pics from this month and came across some cool effect shots I took during a night time storm walk while in Wroxeter.  Some are captures were during gustier moments.

The former ghost town was eerily quiet that night.  In the lead up to Christmas there was a loud speaker on the main street playing Christmas tunes 24/7.  So when they turned it off it was a little too Quiet/Ralph.

KLOGWAI

Listening to some epic tunes I've been neglecting for too too too long.  Seriously been too long since I've given these a listen.  It's like I'm hearing them for the first time all over again!

Weekendo

On Friday went to a Mooseheads game with Sarah's whole program.  They were playing the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles so a rivalry buzz was in order.  We all sat in the same section behind the glass right in front of the super fans/bodysuit men. Good times! Snow storm, then barbeque, then bar, then game, then bar, then drunken stumble home devouring all food in sight.

Saturday nothing happened. No movement at all.

Woke up Sunday and watched Tottenham lose on a penalty given in the last seconds of extra time to that prick Balotelli who shouldn't have even been on the field.

Intentional / Not Intentional???

You don't even need to know his rap sheet to see what's going on in his devious mind.

Anyway to get that bitter taste out of my mouth I met up with Guy to test out his new row boat. Bare in mind it was -10ish and quite breezy.  Here's a pano of when I arrived at the park.  That's Guy's silhouette.

So as fun as frozen rowing sounded it turns out that there was a bit more on his mind then just rowing. In the pano just to the right of Guy is a sailboat on the water. Story is that it's been there for 3 years and nobody knows who the owner is or why he left. So as we were in the row boat Guy goes up to the boat. At this time I did not know anything of it except that it looks like it's abandoned and covered in tarp. He rounds the vessel and then holds on to it and tells me to get on. The initial thought on my mind wass 'You're shitting me!' I really didn't want to fall into the frigid water while being a good 30-40 minute walk away from Sarah's. My arm was twisted and I got on and so did Guy and he went inside the boat and starts assessing the components.  I thought it was a floating coffin.  Apparently Guy was interested in possessing this vessel.

Then his buddy Angel (Awn-Hel) came and I could see him by the shore so Guy left me on the boat and got in the rower and went to get him. Not gonna lie, I questioned how naive I was to be left out life-jacketless and alone on the floating coffin and freezing my ass off.

So Angel came (I had just met him the night before at the Mooseheads game) back with Guy. Phew!! Then Guy and Angel go inside the boat and while I'm standing on the boat and I start getting buckets of water handed to me from under the tarp. So for the next half hour I stood there throwing the water over the side. I started doing a slow jog on the spot for circulation. Eventually they came out with garbage and Guy asked who wanted to be taken to shore first. Trying not to seem to enthusiastic I raised my hand in a nanosecond but casually said "Maybe me. I gotta walk back to Sarah's." So as we are heading back we were still a good 3 feet from shore. We couldn't get any closer and I didn't have the patience to wait. I lunged out of the boat awkwardly aiming for this dry rock for footing. The seat in the boat I had thrust myself off of had jolted back, then the rock moved when my foot hit it, but I had just enough momentum to skip off of it before it went in the water and got on the shore. A minor miracle. I don't even want to think of what a soaker would have been like at that moment.

I start running up the hill and this man starts talking to me asking me about the boat we were just on. "I haven't seen anyone on that boat in 3 years." I tried not to be too rude but I basically said I'm not from here, I don't know anything about boats and I'm really cold and gotta go. Told him to talk to Guy when he got back with Angel.

Yada yada yada, sat in the tub when I got to Sarah's and had a great dinner (Haddock and Scallops!). Also found this cool liquor store with some interesting beers and wines. Had a 'Hell's Bay English Ale' and an 'Anchor Porter'. Yum.
